I painted this from a photo I took in Jackson, NH of Mount Washington in the distance. I was inspired to paint this scene for many reasons - the orange of the barn with the deep blue and purples of the shadows of clouds on the distance mountains and the way the birch trees bent towards one another lining the edge of the field. The glow of the snow and the blue of the shadows on the snow also captivated me. I experimented with painting the sky in a new way to make the color vibrate more vividly.
